Obamacare

Learn more

Contrary to what many believe, Obamacare (ACA – Affordable Care Act) is not a government health plan. It is a law that regulates the health care system in the United States. This legislation requires, for example, that insurers offering insurance regulated by the law provide an annual check-up at no cost to the patient. In addition, these insurers are required to cover any type of illness, including pre-existing conditions, as well as visits to urgent care services, hospitalizations, surgeries, maternity, prescription medications, among other services, with no defined coverage limit.

Medicare

Learn more

Medicare is a health insurance program administered by the United States government, primarily intended for people aged 65 or older or those who meet certain disability criteria and are legal residents of the country. Medicare is subdivided into several parts:

Part A: partially covers hospital expenses (to access this section of Medicare for free, at least ten years of Social Security contributions are required);

Part B: partial coverage for doctor visits and other healthcare professionals;

Important: Part A and Part B make up “Original Medicare,” which pays for a large portion of medical and hospital expenses, but not all. Even with Original Medicare, there will still be expenses to be paid by the insured.

Part C: also known as Medicare Advantage, is an excellent alternative to Original Medicare, as it combines Part A and B coverage and, in some cases, Part D as well, and may also offer additional benefits such as vision, hearing aids, and dental coverage. For more information about these plans, please contact us!;

Part D: provides partial coverage for prescription drugs and is purchased separately.

Coverage and benefits in short-term health insurance depend on the terms of the policy and the chosen insurance company. To ensure if Short Term is the right option for you at this time, it is necessary to understand how it works and what it covers.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

If you missed the initial Medicare enrollment period, there are still other options available to enroll:
General Enrollment Period (GEP):
• When: From January 1 to March 31 of each year.
• Coverage Begins: July 1 of the same year.
• Details: You can enroll in Medicare Part A and/or Part B during the GEP.
Special Enrollment Period (SEP):
• When: After a qualifying event.
• Coverage Begins: Varies according to the situation.
• Details: You may qualify for an SEP if you have employment-based health insurance coverage (yours or your spouse’s) when you turn 65, or in other special circumstances. You can enroll in Medicare Part A and/or Part B at any time while covered by an employment-based group plan, and for up to eight months after the employment or health plan coverage ends, without penalty.
Annual Enrollment Period (AEP):
• When: From October 15 to December 7 of each year.
• Coverage Begins: January 1 of the following year.
• Details: During the AEP, you can enroll in, change, or drop a Medicare Advantage plan (Part C) or a Medicare prescription drug plan (Part D).
Note:

It is important to note that if you do not enroll in Medicare Part B when you are first eligible and do not qualify for an SEP, you may have to pay a late enrollment penalty for as long as you have Part B.

When should I enroll in Medicare?
Some people are automatically enrolled in Original Medicare (Part A and B), while others must enroll as they approach age 65. Enrollment for a Medicare Advantage Plus plan must be completed within a window that begins three months before the month of your 65th birthday and ends three months after that month. Consult us for information regarding other enrollment periods.
What is Short Term Insurance?
Short Term Insurance is a type of insurance designed to provide provisional coverage, generally chosen by those who do not have access to Regulated Insurance or who are in the waiting period to join an Obamacare plan or employer-sponsored insurance. The extent of coverage and benefits in Short Term health insurance vary according to the terms of the policy and the selected insurance company. To determine if Short Term is the appropriate alternative for you at this time, it is essential to understand its operation and its scope of coverage.
How does Short Term Insurance coverage work?
Short Term Insurance basically covers emergencies and accidents and, depending on the plan, diagnostic consultations as well. This insurance generally does not cover pre-existing conditions, nor does it include prenatal and delivery coverage, or newborn care. Short Term Insurance does not cover routine consultations and exams or maintenance services, such as occupational therapy or speech therapy.
Is it advantageous to purchase Short Term Insurance?
Even with coverage restrictions, this insurance is quite advantageous, as it can represent significant savings in emergency cases. A short visit to an Emergency Room can cost tens of thousands of dollars. This amount can increase to hundreds of thousands of dollars if hospitalization or surgery is required. With Short Term Insurance, these expenses will be covered, thus avoiding significant distress and, above all, protecting family finances against often irreversible impacts.

Can I purchase Obamacare Insurance at any time?
No, the enrollment process for this insurance occurs annually during a period established by the federal government, which typically runs from November 1 to January 15. The insurance takes effect without a waiting period on January 1 of the subsequent year for plans purchased by December 15, or on February 1 if the purchase is made by January 15. Enrollment outside the annual period is only possible if there is a special life change occurring within 60 days, such as: birth or adoption of a child, loss of employer-sponsored insurance, loss of Medicaid, change in immigration status, moving from a foreign country to the United States, among other situations. If you have questions, please contact us for more information – Assureline Insurance: 407-502-0203.

  • Coverage category and features;
    Residential address;
  • Number of family members and their respective ages;
  • Household income;
  • Smoking status.
