Medicare is a health insurance system offered by the American government and it was designed for people over the age of 65 years old or that might be invalid that live legally in the United States. Medicare has a few different parts:

• Part A: it mostly covers partially expenses related to hospital care. In order to have free access to this part of Medicare, the individual must have had contributed to the social security office for at least ten years
• Part B: it mostly covers partially expenses related to doctor’s visits and other health providers

Important: Part A and Part B combined form Medicare Original, which pays for a partial share of hospital and medical bills but does not pay for it all. Even if someone has Medicare Original, they will still have to pay for a considerable share of their health expenses.

• Part D: covers partial costs of prescribed drugs and is purchased separately

Medigap (Medicare Supplement Insurance) is an additional insurance sold by private companies and helps the insured pay for the remaining expenses (copayments, coinsurance, deductibles) of the health services that are not covered by Medicare Original.
